Resident Evil 2

Over the course of the last couple weeks I have beaten Resident Evil 2: Remake several times. Getting a S+ ranking with Leon and subsequently struggling with Claire on a second run though.

When I started RE2 I wanted to try getting an S+ which entails no more than than 3 saves and beating the story in under 3:30 playtime. When this game first was out a few years back I had played it so much that I still remember most of it like the back of my hand but I had never gave the 3 saves a shot. I was always terrified I would die and lose some progress but since then my PS4 died and all my saved data with it so this was a fresh account. Why not try it in one setting and just go for it? So I did and it was very rewarding.

One of the harder parts of the game was ammo conservation. Especially towards the end with the plant monsters.

Ivy, Zombie, Plant Monster, Plant 43
I learned these are called Ivy Zombies

The Ivy zombies are one hit kills if you do not have a defensive item to save you. Because of my attempt to beat the game so swiftly I had like a single grenade at this point to save me. When you die on normal difficulty which was what I did this on, you get a respawn point that doesn’t count towards your saves. However it does not rewind the in game clock. Do what you will with that information.

Claire’s play through was bit more casual. I was rounding up stray raccoon toys to get the unbreakable knife for an eventual attempt at a hardcore S+ play through. When Leon meets Sherry for the first time, I cracked up because it is so matter of fact it just hit me different.

I might go back and do S+ on hardcore as I mentioned but for now I will move onto RE3.

Playtime: 7 hours for both runs combined

First Clear: For an S+ run yes, but as far as the content goes no, I have beaten this before.

Recommended: Yup

Price paid for the game: 60 at launch.
